The Earth Star Chakra sits just below our feet, beneath even the root chakra. It is the chakra that anchors us to the planet itself, to ancestral memory, and to the deep roots that hold and ground us even when we cannot feel them.
For this piece I chose truffles. They grow completely hidden underground, in quiet symbiosis with the roots of ancient trees. They can only be found by those who know, or by a dog with a nose trained for exactly this kind of hidden treasure. That felt exactly right for a chakra about trusting what you cannot see.
The background is drawn from ancient Roman mosaic, those intricate geometric patterns that still survive on the floors of basilicas across the city. The Romans built to last. This piece is about that same quality: the deep structures beneath the surface that endure.
This artwork is part of my Italian Chakra Series, created as a way of reconnecting my own energy to the place I now call home. After years living in Malawi and working with patterns inspired by its landscapes and traditions, I felt drawn to create a new chakra series rooted in Italy's food culture, craftsmanship, and ancient visual language.
Each piece in the series is made slowly by hand using ink, acrylic, and a few drops of Mediterranean seawater. The circular composition, mosaic tiles, and layered textures reference Italian artisanship that is tactile, deliberate, and deeply human.
This piece is for anyone who is learning to trust what they cannot yet see. Who is doing the invisible work of rooting. Who knows that the most important things are often growing underground, before they ever break the surface.
