I started this drawing before my yearly trip to see family in the USA when I was still in Lilongwe, Malawi. It started with me thinking about the USA, it's pros and cons, its tensions and energy, its people, and its politics from afar. I then continued the drawing while in the USA. It was eventually finished back in Malawi.
The selected tribes and peoples represented from the twelve American subregions are the Abenaki, Pequot, Miami, Creek, Seminole, Sioux, Navajo, Inuit, Native Hawaiian, Paiute, Pomo, and Yakima.
Rare Earth Gallery writes:
"The Vector Equilibrium system has 12 vertices, 8 triangular faces, 24 edges, and 32 planes. It is an omnidirectional equilibrium symbolically and physically speaking. Thus, it is a perfect symbol for "holding the tension of the opposites," or "uniting the opposites." Yet, it is more than a metaphor. It is an archetypal image which connects the matrix with the universe or the universe with the matrix."
