The root chakra is the first of seven main energy centers in the body located at the base of the spine. The concept of chakras dates back to ancient India, as early as 1500 BC.
In Malawi where I have lived since 2019, I have a garden where I grow patches of red onions among other things. I used one as a model for this painting showing the roots as connected to the soil and its green shoots reaching towards the heavens. It's meant to show the balance between body, mind, and spirit.
In the soil is a traditional pattern found in Tanzania, a country where I was teaching in 2005. The pattern comes from a handmade bag I was given by a family in Moshi as a gift after I helped their children obtain their school fees.
This painting can help those drawn to it to feel a sense of belonging, trust, community, being present, and the ability to not only survive but thrive in this world. It's especially well suited to be hung in meditation, wellness, and community areas, health clubs, art studios, as well as in homes where a relaxing, welcoming, and grounding energy is sought.
All my original paintings and drawings will be signed before shipping. I'll also make and send via email a personalized video message to you of myself signing the work and a description of the shipping process as I ensure it gets safely from my part of the world to yours (with love).
