The Heart Chakra (Anahata) sits at the center of the body and represents love, compassion, forgiveness, and the ability to give and receive with openness. When I began working on this Italian Chakra series, I knew this piece needed to feel soft, generous, and nourishing.
I chose the artichoke (carciofo in Italian) as the symbol for this chakra because it’s one of Italy’s most iconic ingredients: humble on the outside, but layered, tender, and deeply rewarding at the center. It felt like the perfect metaphor for the work of the heart.
The artwork draws from Italian mosaics, hand-carved woodwork, and stained-glass windows, weaving these old-world influences into a bright, contemporary mandala. Like the other pieces in the series, it was made slowly by hand using ink, acrylic, and even a few drops of Mediterranean seawater ... something I added to help ground each piece in the place where it was created.
This artwork is part of my ongoing journey of recalibrating my own energy after moving to Italy and learning to root, balance, and bloom in a new environment. My hope is that this Heart Chakra piece brings gentleness, comfort, and spaciousness into the homes where it eventually lives.
