Most people know about the seven chakras. But there are more.
The Higher Heart sits between the heart and the throat. This chakra is the seat of unconditional love, not the romantic kind, but the kind that embraces everyone and everything, since we are all connected.
For this piece I chose sage. Salvia has grown wild on Italian hillsides and in kitchen gardens for thousands of years. Romans have used it for centuries, not just to cook, but to cleanse, to protect, and to clarify. There is a reason people still reach for it when something needs to shift. Burning sage is an act of intention. You are not just clearing a room. You are also clearing yourself.
The background is drawn from Cosmatesque mosaic patterns, those intricate geometric designs still visible on the floors of Rome's oldest basilicas.
This artwork is part of my Italian Chakra Series, created as a way of reconnecting my own energy to the place I now call home. After years living in Malawi and working with patterns inspired by its landscapes and traditions, I felt drawn to create a new chakra series rooted in Italy's food culture, craftsmanship, and ancient visual language. Each piece in the series is made slowly by hand using ink, acrylic, and a few drops of Mediterranean Sea water.
This piece is made for anyone learning to let go of what no longer serves them, who is discovering that their compassion is also a kind of power, and who knows that sometimes clearing the space is the most important work you can do.
This artwork lives beautifully in meditation rooms and sacred spaces, Reiki and energy healing studios, therapy offices and wellness centers, yoga rooms, and as a gift for someone beginning a healing journey or stepping into a new chapter.
